Abstract:
In recent years, the continuing outbreak of
Sphaeroma in mangrove ecosystem has become one of the factor destructing the natural and manmade mangroves. However, less research has been conducted about the biological characteristics of
Sphaeroma in mangrove ecosystem in China. The knowledge of biological characteristics of
Sphaeroma is important for the mangrove protection and the isopod control. Based on the data collection and field investigation, the causes of degradation and damage situation in China mangrove ecosystem by
Sphaeroma spp., distribution and reproductive life history characteristics and patterns of migration, breeding and gathering season, breeding and nutrient preference of the isopod are discussed. The purpose of this paper is to provide early warning for the isopod damages on the mangroves and the transmission potential of the species, and provide theoretical support for the relevant managers and engineer to determine the
Sphaeroma outbreak for the isopod prevention and control measures.
