Abstract:
Due to the influence of estuary topography and other factors, the asymmetry of tide and tidal current often occurs. To succinctly quantify the asymmetry phenomenon in the estuary, the statistical flood-ebb asymmetry and volume flux skewness are referred. Such features are significantly known to be important role on the mass transport. It is evident that it becomes flood-dominant in Liaohe Estuary after tides and tidal current asymmetry occurs. More interestingly, it is a localized feature that the flood duration prolonged and the ebb duration reduced after shoreline change. The amplitude of its scale decreased between 0.007 and 0.071. The volume flux skewness reduced varying from 0.000 to 0.248 which demonstrates a decreasing in flood current velocity and an increasing in ebb velocity. In general, the influence of shoreline change on tidal current asymmetry is greater than tidal elevation asymmetry.
